Volunteer Opportunities
St. John’s community is dedicated to a ministry of volunteer service, both within the church family and in the world. We encourage you to serve with us! Volunteer work enriches the soul and provides both adults and children with meaningful opportunities to create relationships and positive personal experiences.

Whatever your interests and skills, St. John’s has a variety of interesting and rewarding ways to engage with the community! Look through the opportunities below and contact Ann at the Church office to learn more. Membership in the church is NOT REQUIRED to serve on any committee, just a passion for the mission you’re serving.

There are a number of great ways to get involved in worship!
Serve as Reader, Cantor, Communion Server, Communion Preparer, Greeter, Usher, Acolyte
Provide care of paraments and linens, candles, font, pew rack materials, plants/flowers, etc.
Sew new liturgical outdoor banners
Plan midweek services during Advent and Lent
Sponsor Christmas wreaths, poinsettias, flowers for Easter or any Sunday, or seasonal banners
Help with sanctuary ‘spruce-up’ and décor before Advent and Easter
Join the Worship Committee

St. John’s Foundation was established in 1982 to provide financial support to sustain and advance the ministries of the Church. The Foundation receives and invests monetary gifts in Endowment Fund A of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We continue to focus on how the Foundation can become an effective partner in advancing St. John’s mission and vision.

St. John’s has a number of very talented musical groups that include community members like you! Groups include the choir, bell choir, the Oratorio Chorus which performs the annual concert of Handel’s Messiah, and more. In addition to potential performers at large events, people are also needed who are interested in baking cookies for receptions and ushering at events.

This group meets eight times per year, and serves local and global communities through member donations and fundraisers:
LPGM—sponsorship of three boarding school students in the state of Tamilnadu, India
Harbor Light Shelter, Minneapolis

TRUST (annual fund auction, Wreath of Love)
TRUST Meals on Wheels (assemble tray favors for Easter meal trays)

Hospitality is one of this congregation's deeply held values. For whatever reason you come you will be welcomed here. St. John’s hosts a variety of community groups and events like the Red Cross Blood Drive. You can assist by being in charge of welcoming community groups. Contact us for details.

Oversees the maintenance and protection of congregation’s properties: 49th and Nicollet and Chi Rho Center in Annandale, MN.
Committee members needed
Always needing knowledgeable people to solicit and evaluate estimates for maintenance and equipment; also people who understand building systems and project management
Need energy efficiency improvements
Contractor Skills - electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.
Yard work spring and fall - trim bushes, plant flowers, etc.
Roster of volunteers that are on call for tasks/projects as needed

The Green Team does a variety of activities related to sustainability including:
Assist with evaluating Church procedures for composting and recycling, including use and placement of bins and pickup of contents of bins
Assist with making new signage for users of kitchen
Assist with purchase of compostable items for kitchen and bins
Promote the education of topics for members on environmental issues such as solar, zero waste, reduce, reuse, recycle and pollinator habitats
Promote Tangletown’s neighborhood environmental efforts
Assist with neighborhood events such as Tangletown Clothing Swap held at St John’s

This wide-ranging ministry covers many of our educational programs for both children and adults, fellowship activities, and activities related to childcare.

Help update and maintain the church library
Assist with office mailings, filing, and other office and communications projects as needed
Keep track of kitchen supplies for reorder: coffee, tea, lemonade, sugar, napkins, cups, etc.
Tend pew rack supplies and bulletin boards
